Clear Off the Dust and Debris
Dislodge as much hair, dirt, and debris as you can using a cleaning brush or an old toothbrush. To avoid cross-contamination, spritz the brush with an antibacterial spray every few minutes. This procedure will reduce your risk of infection and scalp discomfort, even though it may seem excessive.
Test Your Clippers
Many clippers can sharpen themselves. Therefore, there’s a chance they simply needed a thorough cleaning if you have a pair of self-sharpening clippers (i.e., include an auto-sharpening mechanism) that weren’t working properly.
Reassemble your clippers and coat the blades with a few drops of hair clipper oil. Oil for clippers is typically included.
Then, let the blades run for a few minutes after turning them on. Any flaws will be eliminated by the blades scraping against one another. Try using the clippers on your hair after that. Go to the following step if they’re still boring or pulling at your strands.
Sharpen the Blades
The blade should be placed on the sharpening stone. The idea is to run the blade back and forth with light, even pressure while keeping it flat.
Your blade should be perfectly sharp after around ten passes down the stone. Sharpen the rear of the blade after finishing the first side.
Clean and Oil the Blades
Until you don’t see any more debris, clean the blades down with either soapy water or rubbing alcohol. This will keep your clippers operating smoothly and help remove any residue from the stone or metal.
To get rid of the water or alcohol residue, wipe the blades dry using a cloth.
To keep the machinery operating smoothly and to help prevent corrosion, spread a thin layer of maintenance oil across the blades. After that, wipe the extra oil off.
Reassemble Your Clippers
The hardest part of this process comes next. Put the pieces back together after you’ve cleaned and sharpened your clippers. Retrace your steps to put your clippers back together.
Make sure the blades are correctly aligned by taking your time. Before tightening the screws, make sure everything is properly aligned.
Keep in mind that you just sharpened the blades, so handle them with caution. Add one last drop of oil to the blades of your clippers after they are in working order.
Turn on your clippers and let them run for a few seconds before cutting your hair to be sure everything is operating as it should.
